BJYM Chief Tejasvi Surya booked for criminal trespassing, breaking barricades at OU

Hyderabad city police on Wednesday registered a case of criminal trespassing against BJYM national president and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya.

This followed the complaint by Osmania University management against Surya. The University management had lodged a complaint against the MP, who had toured the campus on Tuesday as a part of his campaigning for the GHMC elections. He had also addressed a huge gathering at the Arts College.

Tejasvi Surya, who was in the city for a two-day tour to take part in the GHMC election campaign, visited the campus on Tuesday. He along with supporters entered the campus after breaking police barricades at the NCC gate.

On Wednesday, the University authorities lodged a complaint with the police. They sought action as no permission was granted and such events are not allowed on the campus. Based on their complaint, a case under section 447 (Criminal trespass) of the IPC has been registered against Tejasvi and others. All non-academic activities like political events, agitations and public meetings are banned on the campus since 2017. Students have been alleging that the move was aimed to suppress voices given the fact that the university was at the forefront during the Telangana statehood agitation.

Earlier, on Tuesday, a case was also registered against Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind at Banjara Hills police station for damaging TRS party flex boards and making intimidating remarks against Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and working president KT Rama Rao.
